how do you take care of those little bamboo plants you get at stands in the mall?
As a gift I recently recieves one of those little bamboo plants that you can buy at those stands in the mall. It's dying and i'm not sure how you're supposed to take care of it? little water/lot of water... little sunlight/a lot of sun?

- water it enough-- it needs indirect sunlight ... not right in front of the window but in a sun patch
- Are you talking about the green sticks with leaves in a 'rock filled' pot with water (there are usually three sticks per pot)? That is a 'lucky ti plant' and what you need to do is WATER it every day ... and keep it in 'bright light' but out of direct sunlight. Most of the 'pots' are FAR TOO SMALL so if you want you should go buy a larger pot and larger stones and move the sticks to the pot and put the stones around and water that ... but if your 'plants' are turning yellow in the stick, they're dying, and the only thing you can do is throw them out and get new ones ... also NEVER plant them in the same pot as the 'dying' plants because there could be some 'plant disease' that your new plants could catch. So if you do buy new ones ... be SURE they are healthy, with NO 'yellow spots' and are 'dark green' all over ...
- First, they are not real bamboo. It's a corn plant, or some form of that plant species. Plant it in soil, if it has roots, water the soil very well, and give it moderate sunlight. Do not put it in full sun, as they are a tropical understory plant, use to being shaded by larger trees. http://www.evergrowing.com/tips/cornplant.htm ~Garnet Homesteading/Farming over 20 years Horticuluture major
- I used to have one bamboo plant I went to a party and they had the bamboos as tables decorations in a vase with crystal rocks, I only put water like once a month or two about sunlight well It had the one that came from the window and that was not a lot. I had the bamboo in the same vase like I got it for about 5 years until one day I look at it and it was dry, I don't know what happen.
- Bottled spring water is best! Add a little every 4-6 days! Empty and change completely every 2-3 weeks with fresh water. If you must use tap water let it sit out 24 hours before watering! Watering and changing as above! (Chlorinated or fluoridated water) Indirect sunlight is best, but they will tolerate low light! Good luck with your "Lucky Bamboo"! It is actually called Dracaena sanderiana.
