Do I need to do anything to my Lavander plant for the Spring?

Last year late Spring I planted my Lavander plant (perineal?). I did nothing to it before the first frost, so there is still the dead plant standing in my garden. Do I need to trim the dead plant to the ground and wait for the new plant to grow, or should I leave the whole plant alone? Thank you. I'm very new to gardening.

  1. It sounds to me like it's dead, but I wouldn't touch it. If new growth is going to happen, it will be soon.
  2. I have a bunch of lavendar plants, and I've tried both of your options. I've pruned them back and they've done fine and I've left last year's growth on - also did fine. Assuming you're in a zone where lavendar is hardy (which is most of the US) you should be okay either way.
  3. You could trim and tidy the plant up abit, but lavender gets new shoots, from the old so do not trim to low.
