Best plant for inside?
I am looking for a plant to put on a plant stand in our home office. The stand will be close to a large window, but won't receive constant direct sunlight. I want something that can hold up well all year long -- and preferably that has a flowy, draping leaves to it. But really, any kind of pretty, hardy, green plant would be fine. Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you so much!

- Salal Shrub has berries on it which were long used as a food source long before America was called America.
- Look at some of the vining gesneriads, relatives of the African violet -- they're usually fairly adaptable: Episcia, Nematanthus, Hypocyrta, Aeschynanthus, Columnea... Streptocarpella is one of my favorites and pretty easy. http://www.plantsforkids.com/stcbl.html Poke around here: http://www.gesneriads.ca/ You also need to think about temperature (day and night variation and month to month variation) as well as light while you're selecting your plants.
- I would suggest African violets since there would be bright indirect light. They bloom profusely when it's warm.
- a durable variety is menthe plant. also succulents are great just for what your suggesting... there an many hanging varieties and they are always conversation pieces because they are so "thick' qualitied.. and unusual. Another plus with them is they don't need near as much watering and no dusting! string of pearls is a lot of fun too. ivy's good too
- Try an indoor variety of variegated ivy, not only do they have a pendulous habit, but can be trained into topiary shapes using wire frames. They look wonderful hanging inside small bamboo bird cages.
