Exhibits, Shows and Displays

What are your most recommended exhibits at the American Museum of Natural History, in NYC?

My teenagers and I will soon be visiting the museum and planetarium. We're planning to spend about four or five hours, between the two venues. Besides the Fossil Halls, what would you recommend as "can't miss" highlights? Thank you!

  1. The Gem room is awesome.
  2. There is a new exbit that just opened at the Natural History Museum entitled "Race to the End of the Earth." It recounts one of the most stirring tales of Antarctic exploration—the contest to reach the South Pole in 1911-1912–and focuses on the challenges that the two team leaders, Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen and British Royal Navy Captain Robert Falcon Scott, confronted as they undertook their journeys to the Pole and back. Tickets range in price from $24 for adults to $14 for children. There is a $4 fee if you order online at the link below. Good luck Native New Yorker
  3. I absolutely love that museum. My favorite floors are the first and the third. If you're interested in evolution those are the floors with the most info (Hall of Human Origins, Vertebrate Origins) and the first floor also contains the mineral and gemstone sections. Dinosaurs are on the fourth floor. The middle floors are cool too. I actually have an guide I wrote to the museum here if you want to check it out: http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/5568310/american_museum_of_natural_history.html?cat=8
