Do chefs on cooking shows throw the food away after the show?

I'm very curious about this. I don't know if there is a positive way of knowing for sure since we aren't in the studio but its become something that I'm wondering about more and more. I love to watch Food Network cooking shows (not reality shows) and Cooking Channel shows. But what do they (chefs or staff members) do with the food after they cook it? Rachel Ray always says something like "...and I'm cooking for 4 today" so maybe she isn't throwing the cooked food away. She seems to really be feeding people. Sandra Lee comes from a meager past and its hard to think she's throwing the food away in the end. Jaime Oliver always cooks at least the last meal for his gardener. I think its completely awful to waste food of any kind. You can always use left-overs for something. Even scraps can be used for making broths, soups, garnishes, etc. I guess I'm really only asking what your opinions are since we can never really know for sure. What do you think?

Public Comments

  1. It doesn't go to waste. The staff eat it. They have been smelling it and get hungry.
  2. No, they actually give it to audience members.
  3. I saw one of the shows, I think it was Paula Deen, and she commented about feeding the camera men and other crew members. I'd assume that whoever is there (crew members, family, producers, etc.) get the food at the end of the show.
  4. The crew or the audience eat it
