Whats the difference between LED and OLED displays?

Whats the differences and the life spans of both type of displays if used the same ways? Like which one lasts longer?

1. Right now LEDs are just used as backligting for LCD, or a simpler larger segment or dot matrix displays. LEDs do have a pretty long lifetime. OLEDs can be made into a fine pitch dot matrix display suitable for pictures or video. Un fortunately they do not quite have the longevity of LED, and are expensive to manufacture of sigificant size.
