What are the plexiglass screens on stands set up around the president when he makes a speech?

There are always some type of plexiglass looking screens on stands set up whenever the president or any important figure speaks in public. They are usually a few feet away from the podium. It doesn't look like to me they would do anything as far as someone trying to harm the people speaking.

  1. They are not plexiglas screens they are bulletproof shields.
  2. There teleprompters. Basically Obama Binladen has no idea what he's saying so everyone is just telling him what to say ;)
  3. I think those are his teleprompters.
  4. They are obamas teleprompters because he cant remember his speech's.
  5. Those are the teleprompters where the text of the speech is printed for the speaker to read. The words are only visible to the person at the podium, but because the Plexiglas is clear, it enables the speaker to make eye contact with the audience. It's basically the same as using a speech printed on paper, but the speaker can look like he's speaking verbatim.
  6. They are teleprompter technology... and obama never leaves home without at least 6... 2 for use, the rest are back-ups... he is lost without them. They are actually fairly fragile, and offer no ballistic protection... at one engagement, he actually knocked one over, and it shattered into many pieces. I LMAO.
  7. His many teleprompters.. remember he can't make a speech without them, or think a thought or answer a question. Kinda dumb isn't he?
