Food Network last cake standing Did anyone take note of what Mary Maher used to make her cake glow?
She said what it was & I didn't write it down I couldn't find paper & I am now kicking myself.
Public Comments
- tonic and quinine
- She said it was a new product on the bakery/pastry market, edible glow-in-the-dark "paint"
- Isn't she the one who smashed up a couple handfuls of lightning bugs and spread them on in a thin layer? 60 - 80 lightning bugs (depending upon how thin you spread them).
- Mary Maher put the tonic water into piping gel and then applied it to the already completed cake. Tonic water contains small amounts of quinine, which fluoresces in black light. Remember, the cake wasn't exactly 'glow in the dark.' A black light was used to set off the glow
