Why religious holiday displays should not be allowed on government property?

I have a debate on why religious holiday (meaning Christmas) displays should not be allowed on government (public) property. Thanks! articles to back your answers would be great! best answer gets 10pts.

  1. When you combine religion and government, the religion becomes subservient to the government. When you apply religious symbolism to government edifices and symbols, the meaning of the religious symbols become distorted so that they can be used to make political points.
  2. The only answer is separation of church and state
  3. I think the principle behind it is because, being a country that separates church and state, a government entity can't "favor" any one religious holiday over another. Since its next to impossible to have decorations representing ALL religious holidays that fall over the next several weeks (Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, the Solstice, etc.), governments choose not to do anything at all. I think its silly to get so uptight about something that's just for fun, but that's just me.
  4. The Christmas tree of course should be displayed by any state that wants it displayed. The Christmas tree is not a religious display ! I would love for a cross too but this would offend people who came later to these shores and made it necessary for us to live up to Separation of Church and State doctrine.
  5. they should be because this country was founded on christian principles and it hurts no one. if it's a case of separation of church and state - then there shouldn't be religious federal holidays either.
  6. I don't have an article because my internet is really slow today but here's why I don't think it should be allow.America is the most Diverse country and alot of Asians,Indians,Iranians, etc don't believe in God so its kind of insulting their religion.
  7. I believe they SHOULD be allowed on public property, but not at the public's expense. That is, if a public employee wants to put something in their office that is related to their faith, they absolutely must have the right to do it. But you shouldn't have to walk down a row of religious symbols when you walk into court - the state is supposed to be separate from any one religion.
