Anyone who has been to Las Vegas or can give me some advise?

Ok so I'm getting a break for my birthday, My husband is taking me to Las Vegas and his parents are watching our son for the 4 days we are going to be there. We are going in December. Any who, I really wanted to go Treasure Island, It is well known and the nightclub I am interested in going to is free for hotel guests (it is in Treasure Island) when normally it would cost 50 dollars for me and my husband to go. One of the shows we are going to is also in our hotel. It is also conveniently in the middle of the strip and has a big mall in very short walking distance... We are booking plane tickets and the hotel next week and I was looking around at other hotels and came across New York, New york... They are about 100 dollars cheaper. But farther down the strip, we would have to pay for the nightclub we want to go to and have to get transportation to the show... But they have a few good things about them too... One of them being they will send a birthday cake up to your room for pretty cheap... which the other place doesn't do. Both hotels look awesome but because I have never been I really don't know which one is better. And for people who haven't been which one sounds better... Thanks for your advise... I want this to be a wonderful birthday because I didn't have many nice ones growing up. THe hotel is called New york, New york, it isn't in NY it is in Las Vegas...lol. And I do have to wait till next week because we wont have the whole amount of money to pay for it till next week.

  1. New York is an awesome place, has a excellent casino and a killer roller coaster ride, my one piece of advice is rent a car and dont take a cab they charge way to much ... im talking about the hotel in vegas guys not the city lol, i spent half a week in that place and didnt even have a room there, its grreat
  2. I have being in both areas, would recommend Las Vegas. New York is too crowned and nothing that fun. Las Vegas is much better and it worth going to Treasure Island because it looks nice, has nice things inside and theirs a lot of things they give for their guests for free. SO DONT WAIT ORDER NOW to TREASURE ISLAND.
  3. Treasure Island is in a fantastic location and is a first rate hotel. It is surrounded by the finest casinos in Las vegas so you don't have to walk very far. You must be going on a weekend, because TI is not much more than $100 on a weekday. ---------------- NYNY is a borderline budget hotel and you have to walk everywhere. Considering how important this weekend is for you I would go for it.

  5. 4 days? Treasure Island. You do not want to waste time trying to get around. You simply cannot beat the location. Besides, just walking back to your room after drinking is pretty great. Treasure Island also has a killer deli called Canter's deli with the best pastrami you ever tasted and Kahunaville Restaurant/party bar. This place is off the hook. It is right across the hall from the Mystere Theater. It features a DJ and "flair" bartenders, casual dress code and no cover charge. They have huge delicious tropical drinks and every once in a while the bartenders go off exhibiting their skills and try to outdo each other. They really get the crowd involved and it gets pretty raucous. New York-New York is cool but it is not well located. If you were staying longer it might be worth it but since what you want is in and around Treasure Island that is where you want to be. Also, Treasure Island has a free tram that runs to the Mirage. So you get two hotels without a lot of walking. *
  6. I have been to Vegas many times and can offer this: Treasure Island - awesome location. You can take the tram to the Mirage and walk to Venetian, Harrah's Caesar's, Flamingo, etc. NY NY - in my opinion, a nicer casino with much to do. Plus, it's right across the street from the M&M store, where you'll have to go for things for your son. Tough choice, but I think I'd take NY NY. Regardless of where you stay, have fun and happy birthday.
  7. You would be better off at the TI. It will save you time and trouble especially after clubbing. Nothing worse than trying to get back to your hotel after having a night of partying. This way just take the elevator back to your room. You can't go wrong at the TI unless you were going in the summer because the pool area is not very good. Because it will be December you will have a great time.
  8. I have to say that I really love NYNY - it's one of my favorite casinos and I love the piano bar there. But it sounds like Treasure Island will be better for your trip. You'll save yourself money for transportation and the club admission, which will make up some of the difference in price of hotel rooms. The location of Treasure Island is really fantastic, and there is so much to do around there. I would spend the extra money and stay there.
  9. TI would be a better choice for you. Ignore the answer that tells you to rent a car. Just buy a three day bus pass to get where you want to on the strip. NY NY is a nice place, but further down the strip. If money is going to be tight though, go ahead and book there. You can get back to the hotel in 10-15 minutes on your bus pass. Or about 20-25 minutes walking. I don't recall exactly where on the strip you can buy the pass, ask your concierge, it is a little machine and you can get a three day pass for $15/person. Beats walking the strip. Right across from the NY NY is the MGM Grand which is a nice place to visit too. But if money is going to be a concern, just book the cheapest place on the strip, that time of the year isn't too hot that it will kill you to walk. And no matter where you book, you can check out all the other hotels. You will have a blast! Make sure you book the hotel direct and use a promo code. You can find them on the hotels website. Or look it up here: http://www.smartervegas.com/searchresults.aspx?day=6&month=12&year=2009 I noticed that in December, they have rooms at the MGM Grand for $52 per night which includes all day buffet pass for 2 people. Meals are usually more expensive on the strip than on Freemont Street (which you MUST visit). Hope your birthday is fun! And I don't know how you can not have fun in Vegas!
  10. Treasure Island won't have no noisy loud roller coaster keeping you awake at night. Treasure Island is next door to the fashion show mall and the Wynn. I vote for TI! Chek priceline.com for pricing. Or name your own price for strip resorts and see where they place you. Cancellation fee applies if using it. No refunds if not used.
  11. Both hotels are 4 stars in rating, but what it really does come down to is location. Personally, I like the location of Treasure Island better. Plus, from what is sounds like, you will be right there near everything you want to be by. New York New York is fun just because it has the Roller Coaster and a fun unique theme! There is a lot to do at this hotel and great dining options as well! But, Treasure Island is definitely near it all! I'm assuming the show that you are going to see is Mystere? It is an amazing show and really is one of the best on the Strip! At Treasure Island you will be right near that show and near tons of other things to do too! That part of the Strip is home to fantastic restaurants and daytime entertainment options. So, I would go with Treasure Island. The two links I have provided below also offer great pricing on these hotels and a comparison of what each offers. Hope this helps :)
  12. I would book your flight first, then decide which hotel you would like a bit later. Hotel rates are generally less in December and may go down further. You have some good choices and no real losers in what has been mentioned by others. Decide what you want out of your location and choose the hotel/casino that best matches your needs/wants. As for a rental, you really don't need one as there is transportation (the monorail, tram, The Deuce) available unless you are planning to take in the sights at Lake Mead or Hoover Dam. The best thing is that you can always make another trip and stay at other hotel/casinos and visit other areas that you did not have time for the last time. We are also planning another possible trip to Las Vegas or Laughlin in December---we are debating the choices right now.
  13. I'd agree that booking your flights and then looking for hotels later would be a good option. I'd recommend the website below for researching cheap hotel breaks. Then when you have found some hotel options, search them over in TripAdvisor and gauge reviews.
