What action can the worlds nations take to prevent man made damage to the environment?

'Animal, vegetable and mineral, a pristine tropical coral reef is one of the natural wonders of the world. Bathed in clear, warm water and thick with a psychedelic display of fish, sharks, crustaceans and other sea life, the colourful coral ramparts that rise from the sand are known as the rainforests of the oceans.' http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/interactive/2009/sep/02/coral-world-interactive 'And with good reason. Reefs and rainforests have more in common than their beauty and bewildering biodiversity. Both have stood for millions of years, and yet both are poised to disappear.' http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2009/sep/02/coral-catastrophic-future 'If you thought you had heard enough bad news on the environment and that the situation could not get any worse, then steel yourself. Coral reefs are doomed. The situation is virtually hopeless. Forget ice caps and rising sea levels: the tropical coral reef looks like it will enter the history books as the first major ecosystem wiped out by our love of cheap energy.' http://www.morningstaronline.co.uk/index.php/news/world/Planet-needs-climate-Marshall-Plan 'Rich states must put together a "Marshall Plan" for developing countries to help them adapt to climate change without compromising economic growth, a top UN economist has argued.' http://www.morningstaronline.co.uk/index.php/news/features/World-s-poor-left-high-and-dry Do you agree? Should we take action, and if so, what action should we take?

  1. I think you should pay for your religious causes out of religious donations just as all the rest of us do ours.
  2. If people stopped breeding then the problem would be solved, however they won`t and the population will continue to grow and earth will slowly die despite the useless efforts of electric cars and rubbish light bulbs! In a few hundred years time this planet will be a desolate waste land.
  3. "Green" will be our demise!
  4. Flyboy. No it won't - a Promise is a Promise - by a 'non human' too. about silly light bulbs. for people in flats - why not try not using 'lamp shades'. It's sick how some go on about the Millions of lives the wars cost. Being so "full to busting" one would have thought they were eons ago. There is no telling some people - so Jesus has to come soon. His dad made the planet and Animal and Vegetable and Mineral - it's those people who pretend they are 'animal'.
  5. These are short-term solutions. What we need to do is terraform the moon and send the extra people there or introduce population control (legalise guns, abolish driving tests and bring back the death penalty)
  6. About a 1000 years ago there was a period of global warming which had temperatures above what they are now. In 1870 there was a mini ice age. When they show you the graphs they are scaring the public with now it looks like a hockey stick with the rise starting at the time of the mini ice age. All the other blips, including the big blip of 1000 years ago, have been flattened out as if this is the first time climate change has taken place. They are lying to the world to take more tax off us. Climate change will normalise itself as it has done before since time began. They have also seen that climate change is taking place on Mars. Are there cars and farting cows on Mars? How do they explain the hot period of a thousand years ago when there were less people, no factories to speak of, no cars and no aircraft?
  7. Until the nations of Earth stand up against big business and demand for big businesses to take responsibility for their rape of our planet, the fate of our planet will be gloomy. In addition, until the people use their personal economies to effect changes with their individual buying power there will be inadequate pressure upon governments and big business to initiate the kinds of changes that can result in improvements upon our planet. Earth is as of now, the only viable home for mankind. If we continue the wholesale destruction of our environments, mankind is doomed for his neglecting his responsibility to protect our planet. As you made reference to coral reefs, the coral reefs are vital habitats for sea life, sea life is a significant source of food for mankind, and coral reef does provide natural barriers to help prevent our coastal communities from beach erosion and tidal surges. They require protection just like our air and water supplies. Unfortunately, mankind has lost his grip upon big businesses and governments. These are just a few more reasons for why the Earth is in need of a revolution to force change and improvements.
