What are some good New York Broadway shows?

I have loved all the Broadway shows so far, but this time I'm going with a friend who doesn't really like Broadway shows in general. It pretty much has to be kept at "G" because her Mom is sort of conservative. I've already watched Phantom of the Opera, Spamelot (is that even on anymore?), Wicked, and In the Heights. Her Mom thinks Little Mermaid is a good bet, but I've ever really liked the thought of Disney Broadway too much. But what do you think? Is Disney Broadway any good?

  1. If Lion King is still playing, check that one out. The costume designs and sets are truly brilliant. But, usually, I hate Broadway musicals. So, I might not be the best person to ask.
  2. The Lion King ... its Disney Broadway but it is supposed to be Amazing (the lion costumes are extraordinary) or if you can convince her mom ... Mamma Mia (i think its PG)
  3. Hairspray or The Lion King
  4. It's a shame she is so conservative because Billy Elliot is AMAZING! I just saw it a few weeks ago and was blown away!!! It has some cursing in it though, so that wouldn't work. I agree with everyone about The Lion King. I saw that a few years ago and it was INCREDIBLE!!! Definitely Rated G, but so well done. A great "spectacle." Shrek, The Musical is supposed to be really funny. Blue Man Group is off-broadway now, and that's a really fun show.
  5. Well, this isn't a Broadway show, but the Blue Man Group is pretty cool. I don't know if it's still on tour, or if it is still in New York City. Go and look for a show somewhere.
  6. I would not recommend Little Mermaid! I saw it back with the orginal cast, and I was bored the entire time! Especially since you've seen such great shows like Wicked (which is amazing!) you will not be impressed by it! Disney Broadway shows are great for first-timers, and people like your friends mom. I would recommend Lion King or Mary Poppins! I think both are equally great; it just depends which story you prefer. I also think Mary Poppins tickets are easier to get. Also Shrek the Musical is a good choice! I saw it last week and was blown away by Sutton Foster (Fiona). It was hilarious the entire time! If you like the movie, and know all the jokes, Shrek would be great! Mamma Mia might be a good choice too, I wouldn't call it any more than PG. Tell her to check out the movie first to see if she'll approve. Do the same with Hairspray, also PG, I would say. Off-broadway, the Blue Man Group, is another good option. It's really entertaining, and tickets are a bit cheaper than Broadway. Billy Elliot is amazing! but I am not sure if that's G, or PG for the matter. It does have some cursing, it's more of a liberal show, so I guess that might not be good. I hope this helps, really any show you choose will be good, just try to see anything but Little Mermaid. All the rest are good =)
