What is the lowest temperature a tomato plant can stand?
I live in Delaware, and it is going to get down to 40 degrees tonight. I have tomato plants in containers on my deck. Should I bring them inside, or cover them? The only thing I have to cover them with is thin plastic. It would be easy to bring them inside for the night and then put them back out in the morning. Anybody have any experience with this? Thanks!

- 33 deg f
- below about forty-five and you might run into some trouble.
- oh def. bring them inside i would not let them get below 45 degrees actually. I live in oregon and i planted mine 2 days ago.
- anything below 40 Farenheit will kill it
- Yes. The lowest temperature is 50. Below that you are taking a chance on your plants and from the number you're doing, that seems like an awfully risky loss.
- if i were you i would take them in. I live in NC where its relatively warmer, we had a few cool nights and our plants didn't like it they wilted, Tomato's generally like warmer weather. so just to be safe i'd bring them in. :o)
- Greetings, Mine all died at 34 degrees here in Idaho. Gonna replant today. Bringing them in will be a big advantage. S1lent
- with humidity, you could get a damaging frost as high as 38F...i cover mine planted in ohio at any temps below 40...
