How do Reality TV shows (Talent shows in particular) gain profit?

I need the estimation of cost and the estimate profit from a reality TV show program (talent shows in paticular) i.e. American Idol and other similar shows.

3. Like all shows they rely on advertising revenue and sponsors to the programs. This revenue is tied to the ratings that the show gets. Another form of revenue for TV has been TV on DVD, this again plays on the popularity of the show. The advantage of reality and sports programming ove rmany other shows is the relative cheap production costs.
4. They're a bit more profitable as they tend to maintain an audience throughout the season and have much lower production costs as they have all the benefits of an ensemble without all the costs. Of course, all this is relative to their ratings which influence how much advertisers are willing to pay to show their ads.
5. Of course on air ads. But call or text in vote systems for a fee also. Plus they make combo cds of the runner ups and produce the first 2 or three cds for the winner(s).
