How can I record shows on my dvd recorder when my converter box is on?

I have a Zenith converter box and a Magnovox DVD recorder. I can record shows just fine when the box is OFF, but this is soon not going to be an option when analog programming is stopped. When the box is on, everything I record is just static!

1. You need to record from Channel 3 or A/V. Use the box to tune channels.
