is it impossible to keep a floor-standing plant with a puss?

we have a kitten and a palm tree-type plant that stands on the floor in a pot. she gets in it, gets soil everywhere and climbs up it, making it lean to one side and basically die! should I just give up? and actually, any type of plant she will dig into the soil. I don't want my house to be plant-free,can you buy anything to go over the soil??

  1. When kitty starts getting close to it squirt kitty with a squirt bottle filled with cold water & say no.
  2. Cover the soil with those silver dollars size river stones, you can buy a little bag of them from hobby stores or gardening stores and they can come in some very beautiful natural colors.
  3. my cats killed my ficus tree, then I got another one and got smart, I covered the top with chicken wire, they could barley stand to walk on it and after about 2-3 months left the new one alone.
  4. it is a lot easier to give her the plant and tell people it is a toy for the cat. if you really want the cat out of the plants, get her one of the floor to ceiling scratching post/ climbing tree. looks like a tree. then put double sided tape in the soil of the plants, they hate the sticky feeling. soon she will learn to attack the climbing scratching post.
  5. same problem here! cover the soil with tin foil, most cats dont like the sound of tin foil (all of mine run when i do anything with it haha) but yeah give it a try and see if it works!
