In reality tv shows why is there always so much space between the contestants and the hosts?
I watch an insane amount of "reality" tv (don't judge) and I have always wondered why the host(s) stand so far away from the contestants during any kind of discussion/instruction. Why is that?

- if its jeremy kyle, probably so he doesn't get punched!! although i love that show!!!
- I guess its in order to allow for camera angles and close ups etc ..... also maybe the miking system too, and lighting, believe it or not in a simple quizz show there is a hell of we don't see. There are times when the host alone needs to explain the rules etc to the audience - and its just not necessary or conducive to watching that we see the contestants at that point in time. Also there may be times when contestants need to go different sections in the studio to sit in a different seat, whilst the host fills in the slot - this all saves time and looks more professional when they can just cut to shot and the contestant is in place, easier for final editing .
