What are some of your favorite musicals/broadway shows?
Im looking for music for my voice lessons, and I need to get a bunch from broadway or other musicals. Any favorites I shouldnt miss? Im not too familiar with them, so let me know which ones are your fave, and especially if you have a favorite song from it. Thanks!

- You can usually goto your public library and they have DVDs and Videos of musicals. I use to do it when i was a kid so Hello Dolly is a good one. like i said the library has alot of stuff you can check out. Just a thought. Good luck and breath from the diaphram lol.
- -ANYTHING from RENT. beautiful music. i really can't pick a favorite. "out tonight" and "light my candle" were my first favorites though. -anything from spring awakening- newbie but goodie. my favorites are: "and then there were none", "all that's known", "totally f*cked", "my junk"... ha there all good, who am i kidding. -stuff from wicked. my favorites are "the wizard and i", "defying gravity", etc... - jersey boys: it's all music by the four seasons, i love "december, 1963" - mamma mia: all music by abba, my favorite is "honey, honey" and "mamma mia" and "dancing queen" - hairspray: "mama, i'm a big girl now", & "you can't stop the beat" these are more of the newer musicals. hope it helped.
- You definitely have to see Mary Poppins. It is new to broadway and it is perfect for a female voice
- Wicked of course. It has a good range of songs for inexperienced to experienced (aka Defying Gravity! Hard to sing!). Thoroughly Modern Millie also has good songs that you could sing for classes. Ssome of my other favorites are Hairspray (most of the songs sung by Tracy), Little Shop of Horrors (songs sung by Audrey), Rent (random songs- Light My Candle, Goodbye Love, etc), Gypsy, and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (Nothing Is Too Wonderful To Be True is one I can think of right now). They All have good songs.
- WICKED all the way! if you can hit high pitches go for Defying Gravity and if you want a duet go with Loathing and if you want somthing fun go with popular:):) you might want to think about some songs from tha sound of music! And hairsparay has realy good songs. my fav is good morning baltimore
- Well, i'm not much of a fan of the classic musicals like 'Oklahoma!' but I love musicals just the same and i've got loads. These are all absuloutely amazing with great songs in them: The Phantom of the Opera Cats (especially 'Skimble Shanks the Railway Cat') Evita (especially 'Another Suitcase in Another Hall') Les Miserables (in particular 'I Dreamed a Dream') Fiddler on the Roof Sweeny Todd (it's quite dark but the songs are brilliant) The Producers I know loads more but those are my favourites, investigate them, they are all breathtaking to watch and to hear.
- Avoid Defying Gravity - although if your teacher has any sense they won't let you sing it anyway, as it's an absolutely huge belt which if not done properly will destroy your voice. You don't say what your voice type is, so I'll go ahead and list some of my favourites regardless of range... - Sweeney Todd (all of it!) - Into the Woods (particularly Little Red and the Baker's Wife songs, and On The Steps of the Palace) - Singin' in the Rain (how can you not love it?!) - Anything Goes (title song, I Get a Kick out of You, Blow Gabriel Blow) - The Producers (the only female solo is If You Got It, Flaunt It, which is a fantastic and fun song) - Les Mis (I Dreamed a Dream, and I do like On My Own, but it's very overdone) - My Fair Lady (I Could Have Danced All Night) - Chess (Heaven Help My Heart) - Taylor the Latte Boy (which is not from a musical, but it is a stunning song, well worth a look, I think it's on one of Kristen Chenoweth's CDs) - Cabaret (Don't Tell Mama, the title song, Mein Herr) - Witches of Eastwick (Another Night at Darryl's) - The Sound of Music (Confidence) - Evita (Don't Cry For Me Argentina, You Must Love Me) - Sunset Boulevard (With One Look) - Dick Tracy (More, Sooner or Later - this is a film rather than a musical, but Sondheim wrote the music!) - Fiddler on the Roof (Far From the Home I Love) - Guys and Dolls (If I Were A Bell) - Once Upon a Mattres (Shy) - Company (Not Getting Married Today) - Oklahoma (I'm Just A Girl Who Cain't Say No) - Flower Drum Song (I Enjoy Being A Girl) That's a fairly eclectic selection for you - I honestly recommend not doing anything that's big on Broadway at the moment, look at some of the older musicals as there is some wonderful music there.
- Wicked- Good for high belting RENT- Gorgeous and catchy music In The Heights- "Breathe" and "It Won't Be Long Now"- New, fresh Side Show- Amazing score. Phantom Of The Opera- Work on your soprana Legally Blonde- Super fun!
