Casting actors for Broadway shows via television?

Am I the only person who thinks casting for Broadway through reality television is absurd?!? Some of the people have only done a few years worth of theatre some as little as one. Doesn't it seem ridiculous that there are people who work on their skills for years but don't get as close to the final cut than the reality tv shows. I'm not a professionally trained actor nor have I auditioned for professional plays but, I understand the hard work that goes into the making of a play. Who agrees?

1. It is absurd but the producers of these Broadway shows are probably getting hefty fees from the reality series which is offsetting production costs to some degree.
2. Well if your talking about shows like legally blond then I disagree because they do still go through the audition process. All of the people who work on their skills for years are just as welcome to try out as anybody else.
