Why are the stands so empty at the moment?

Watching the last few Devils games, I noticed the stands aren't even half full. Fair enough it's very early on in the season, but even the MSG commentators have been struck by how lacking the audience figures are in the stadiums. Anyone got any ideas?

  1. I think Americans are watching the World Series or Football or the upcoming elections
  2. The R-E-C-E-S-S-I-O-N.
  3. It depends where you are. if you live the good ole U.S. of A. I would have to say either the team in your city sucks or generally speaking it would be a safe guess that the current economic plight of the good folks south of the 49th has a lot more to do with it. Here in Canada the seats in the lower bowl of most of the stadia are owned by large corporations who show up 10-15 into the period, and usually leave with 5 min or so left. So it looks for the most part that the seats have been empty all night.
  4. because the economy is bad, so fans are less likely to be there not the case in DC tho their attendance is up compared to this time last year. partly because they sold 4,000 more season tickets this year than last
  5. NY doesn't need that many teams. yes, new jersey is close enough to siphon off fans from the other NY teams, so they count as a NY team.
  6. it probly because of football an the world series an ive notice that at the blackhawks game i have season tickets an ive notice that an i go to every game at home go blackhawks
  7. If it was just coming back from intermission most people who go to games usually are coming back from there beer at intermission but some people dont even stay or the nj isnt a big hockey city
