what's the most best and most beneficial way to adjust speaker stands?

i have 2 speaker stands, and i can adjust them to make the speaker tilt upwards or downwards. i.e. the more i twist anticlockwise the lower the speakers and stand gets and vice versa it is basically a tilt that can go up or down if i have the speakers tilting up will they sound better or worse? shall i just keep them dead stright? please help thanks

  1. i always adjust my speakers so that there as far apart as possible and pointing them towards the centre of my listening area...IE. the sofa, tweeters are at ear level. some speakers don't like being to close to a wall, can make the bass sound to artificial..to boomy and will muddy the sound...not good...
  2. Practice ahead of time at a rehersal. Have one moderator adjust the speakers for each guest.
  3. Hiya dude, i have 2 studio monitors/speakers and i've used them in a studio environment, you need to basically find a sweet spot and so if you think of an upside down triangle shape...you are the bottom point, so place your speakers where the other points would be at equal distances all around and at ear level height ... that's the sweet spot right there. Or as close as u can get.
  4. It has everything to do with your speakers and the space they're in, so no arrangement someone else tells you is likely to just work. The traditional audiophile way to deal with this is to place them somehow, sit and listen, adjust them, repeat process until you think they're arranged close to the best they can be. A lot of crazy audiophiles spend several months rearranging their speakers for optimum sound. If you want to get really advanced, there is software that allows you to model your space and simulate sound and much more rapidly track down the most likely optimal places to try. Here's an article on the whole thing, including two software packages: http://www.soundstage.com/revequip/weaver11.htm
  5. Keep the speakers level and have the tweeters at ear height in your normal seating position at the apex of the triangle.
