- give it legs! ahahaha. okay, really. you just made the cake like it's lying down, they stand it up when it's done. You can add icing on all sides later! easy and it works.
- 1st get it to learn that when it does a trick you will give it a treat. Be sure to use clear 1 or 2 syllable commands, and use the same tone of voice while doing it. I would start with something easy like lie down. My cake is 3 yrs old and I already have it speaking and pretending to die when I point my finger at it and say "BANG"
- before you put the tombstone onto the other cake, stick a wooden stick or two into it with about 3 inches (or less if you bottom cake isn't that thick) excess to poke into the other cake. i'm making a HUGE bowling lane with pins a ball and everything for my brothers b-day. good luck!!
- Bake three pans of cake, two rectangular and one round. Cut one rectangular cake in half and use it for the base. Run a wire coat hanger thorough the dishwasher then bend it into a long oval with a hook on it. Bend the oval at a 100 degree angle so you can put the hook part under the back half of the cut cake. This makes a stand against which you can lean the tombstone. Put the other half in front and frost. Lean the second rectangle against the stand and top it with half a round. Frost over the support when frosting the vertical cake.
- I saw something similar to this on Amazing Cakes a few weeks ago. They built a support out of cardboard and dowels, kind of like an easel. You can cut the cardboard the same size as the cake, slightly smaller -- you just need it for support. You could make a sheet cake and cut it to size for the tombstone, then make a regular round two layer cake to set it on. Anything smaller than 10" round would be too small, though. Have fun!
- you can do it with it laying down too, it doesnt neccessarrily have to be upright. http://www.easy-birthday-cakes.com/over-the-hill-cake.html can make it rectangle shaped like a headstone that lays flat on the ground or can make it rectangle but kinda cut it so its rounded at the top....but that its still laying flat http://thechocolatebelles.com/here-lies-your-youth-tombstone-50th-birthday-cake/ http://www.kids-party-paradise.com/graveyard-cake.html
