Do the people who appear on the reality tv shows get paid and do they have to get a SAG card?

Just wondering how they live without their paycheck for 12 or so weeks while the shows are taping.

  1. oh they get paid to be in their, magazines, tv interviews alot.
  2. Yes sometimes they get paid (even Ozzy, who have plenty of money got paid) and some of them already have SAG cards because most of them are wannabe actors but in general they do not need a SAG card since they are not "acting" (most of them can't act anyway). In some other shows you do not get paid if there is a price like in Survivor; but the participants get free food and shelter and a few bucks so they can survive, not to mention they get some kind of free publicity.
  3. The only payment they get is air-time and (if they win) the grand prize! After the show airs is when they start making the money. People on Reality Shows DON'T get paid for being on the shows! As for the SAG card, I'm not sure... of course there are the obvious SAG members, but I do know that extras and people on commercials get a SAG card, so I would think the same for Reality TV contestants. But I might be wrong, I have no clue...
