Why does MTV have stupid reality TV shows?

Ever since the making of the Real World on MTV in 1991, there has been a list of reality TV shows, reality game shows, reality dating shows, etc. All of these shows are pointless and have no worth or value to even watch. Why does MTV air these non-educational shows that seem to make our generation stupid?

14. For the same reason horrible movies continue to be made, b/c stupid people watch them and then buy the seasons. if everyone stopped watching them maybe tv would go back to being good....you have the idiots of the world to thank for this one.

I agree with you...there has been some good shows in the past but that was back in the 90's..like the real world, and TRL... but now-a-days..they have some BORING SH*T!!!! shows like next, parental control, that lie detector dating show...they are all stupid!! the people on the show act stupid, and its so fake!!!! WE NEED TO STICK TO THE REAL WORLD AND MUSIC HEY I THOUGHT MTV STOOD FOR "MUSIC TELEVISION"??? THEY NEVER PLAY MUSIC ON THAT CHANNEL!! just boring garbage like PARIS HILTONS NEW BFF AND THE HILLS!!
19. They are dumb. Like I care who Heidi is dating. Sigh... gone are the days of music videos. What I think is so funny is that MTV has become so crowded with reality shows they had to make MTV 2 for music videos. Now MTV2 is starting to get more shows on there also! LOL. Whats next...MTV 3? Or do they have that already. lol.

24. They cost less to produce, they don't have to pay the participants as much as a musician or real actor, and they bring in bigger ratings then music video shows. Companies don't make TV shows for the people to enjoy, they make them for the $$$ money. Don't look to MTV for education though, ever. Even before they had so many reality TV shows they had on popular music videos. And I seriously doubt that lines like "I don't ready you're ready for this jelly" or "I'm a firecracker, I make it hot" were going to expand your mental horizons anyway. MTV has never had educational programming.
