how do you make those awesome cakes you see on food network?

You know those extreme cakes on the challenge shows on food channel

1. you use lots and lots of fondant...lol...which i think is really gross...but my friends made my other friends wedding cake and they did a three layer cake and u just make the cakes like normal and then u can either put the fondant directly on or u can put icing on first and then smooth it out and top it in layers...and add a lil icing decorations on the outside...but as for the lil fondant decorations and sugar decorations...idk how to do them...lol :))
2. They use a lot of fondant, which not all people enjoy. I have used it before. Most of it you have to buy, but I used a recipe for Marshmallow Fondant. You could Google it, if you need to.
