What are the best way to clean rocks for specimen exhibits?

What are the best ways to clean rocks and minerals of deposits, stains, and organics, so that they can be used for display pieces and in a collection?

1. well first you should read up on what deteriorates the minerals first so you know which cleaning material to avoid when you clean your specimens. The best thing I can think of would be something neutral like filtered or bottled water to clean off the rocks.
2. If you get yourself a good rock and mineral guide book, it should have the cleaning instructions. but be prepared to have , Distilled water Bicarb of Soda CLR(calcium ,lime and rust remover) Ultrasonic cleaner Hydrochloric acid Scrubbing brushes tooth brushes toothpicks tweezers and a whole lot more cleaning aids
