What is the proper orientation of landscape exhibits in a report?

If you've got a report with the text pages in the portrait orientation, which way should the landscape exhibits go? Should the top-right corner of the landscape exhibit match up with the top-left corner or the bottom-right corner of the portrait page? I have my preference and a good reason but is there an MLA (or some other association) ruling on this? I work in the engineering field and there are many, many reports/information packets involved and a small percentage of people orient the landscape exhibits with the top-right corner aligned with the bottom-right corner of the portrait pages. I know that this is not the preferred way but I'm looking for some type of official rule from the MLA style (or a comparable association). See, with engineers, you need to show them a published rule before they'll agree that they did something wrong.

  1. The top-right corner of the landscape exhibit should match up with the top-left corner of the portrait page. I have been in the business world for years, and that is the ONLY way I've ever seen exhibits presented
