Could non-union stagehands be hired to re-open Broadway shows for good?

There's thousands of theatre people moving to New York City every year that would love any opportunity to work on Broadway... Could the union stagehands just be fired for costing the industry millions of dollars with their strike and fresh non-union theatre people with love for the art be hired?

  1. No. Because that's what they started unions for. The workers cannot be fired when the union has sanctioned the strike--which it has. If they could just fire anyone who went on strike, we'd be back in the Carnegie-Rockefeller days.
  2. It would take longer to show them exactly what needs to be done to run the show than it will take for the strike to end.
  3. No. Theatre producers and AEA would be breaking their contract and get huge fines for employing "scabbers" (non-union stage hands). It's hard enough to keep a Broadway show funded. Going outside the union is not worth it.
  4. NO !!!!!!!!! unlike the UK where anybody can work in the Theatre (inc Americans union or not) Think yourself lucky that no Tom Dick or Harry can go to your Theatre and take your job by working for less than you !
