- i would make any kind cake you want, and use the dowels for support.
- Just make the cake from a cake mix. I've done wedding cakes and used cake mixes. They stack fine.
- Try Hot Milk Sponge, it tends to hold up a lot better than other types of cake, and tastes great! Beat 2 eggs for 3 minutes on high until foamy. Add: 1 cup of sugar and beat again. Add: 1 c. flour + 1 tsp. baking powder; mix. Add: 1/2 cup of scalded milk & 1 tsp vanilla; mix. Bake in a greased and floured pan at 350* until golden brown.
- Any pound cake recipe would do you fine for this hun. They are more dense than regular cake recipes and most people who do carved or sculpted cakes use a variation of a pound cake recipe. You can find several here, just click the "recipes" tab and type 'pound cake' into the search box and away ya go. http://www.cakecentral.com
