How to make cake stand for tiered and stacked cake?

I want to make a cake stand for a 5 tier cake. it is round and has dowel rods. Any hints would be greatly appreciated.

1. few thin sticks or ask a bakery
2. I would buy one. Micheal's, the craft store, has a baking section with cake stands. These are what I use when I have multi-tiered cakes.
