How do I care for a "peace lilly" plant properly?

It is a good sized plant that I transplanted into bigger pot with excellent soil - my problem seems to be watering. Leaves ALWAYS turn yellow (too much water) so I cut way back on amount and still happening! Have it on stand across the room from large dinning room window for indirect light. She is not a happy plant! What does she want?

  1. I have about 10 peace lilies....I water them once a week, unless they start to droop...a peace lily can "tell" you when they are dry. Also, the yellow leaves may be from the shock of repotting...give her a little time. I don't know where you live, but I live in Mississippi and in the summer, I put mine outside in the shade. I also put in some fertilizer spikes last winter and now mine have 8-10 blooms each. Hope this helps!! Happy gardening!
  2. It is good that you repotted her. As with most house plants, they prefer to take in water from the bottom, instead of the top. To improve the appearance, try to snip out the affected leaves as close to their bottoms as possible. Peters liquid fertilizer is a good choice to promote new growth to cover up the ugly. Peace lilies actually bloom better if they are allowed to dry out a bit between waterings. They definitely do not like wet soil. Add drinks to the dish at the base of your pot, and the roots will take up what they need. Good luck
