how can i ship a plant from florida to germany?

i have a vine that was from my mothers funeral back in 1994. my husband just got orders to germany so we will be moving in a couple of months. i really cant stand the thought of having to get rid of my plant. if it didnt have a story behind it, it wouldnt be a problem. i was only 12 when my mother passed away and this is one of the only things that i have left. it may seem silly to you but i dont know if i can just "let it go" like that. does anyone know how i can get it sent overseas? or how could i pack it to take it with me? i thought of maybe ziplock baggies or something.... would it stay alive for the ride over there. it would be less than 24 hours. i need some ideas from someone with a green thumb!!! oddly enough, this is the ONLY plant that i have ever been able to keep alive! we are ment to be together lol. i need help!!!

  1. Hi, I would take it with you and not ship it. The shipping would take longer and stress the plant out more. Take the plant and wrap the roots with damp newspaper or paper towels. Place the covered roots in a plastic bag to keep the moisture in. It should be ine. I used to ship plants and this is how we did it. There were never any problems. Good Luck
  2. Hello ! Are you coming to Vilseck ? That's where me and my husband are, well, I suggest you call a few airlines even though you don't have your tickets yet, call Delta, United Airline, KLM and ask them about bringing the plant on the plane with you, I personally think that's the best way, I don't think you can mail it here, I tried to mail seeds in a little package and it never made it through so, you could also call the American Embassy in Frankfurt and find out...check out this link http://www.germany.info/relaunch/info/consular_services/customs/moving.html and Good Luck :)
  3. you would have to check. you aren't allowed to ship plants or foods to some countries. check with a consulate for that info.
