Why do you think retail displays have mannequins with just a large oversized shirt over them?

Isn't it weird that they don't display fashion, but rather big ugly shirts that have 'sale' all written over them? I mean that's rly ugly, but why do they do that? Some kind of marketing strategy perharps? P.S: I'm doing a little project on retail displays, if you guys could give me some pics or info. I would like them, thank you very muhc

1. I think sometimes they have hidden cameras in the eyes that watches you while your shopping.
