Is it safe to change an exhaust on an AWD Eclipse on 4 jack stands?

I've never changed an exhaust or been under my car before and know its a bit rusty so I'm trying to prepare. The specs in my manual say my car is about 4,079lbs. I havent bought the jack stands yet, so I'm planning on buying two pairs of 2 ton Powerbuilt Jack Stands. Meaning the stands would be able to hold 4 tons of weight when my car is only 2 tons. Safe? Or should I get a pair 4 ton ramps for the front and a pair 2 ton jack stands for rear? Would that hold better when changing an exhaust? Thanks. (I also heard about putting some cinder blocks underneath for added safety?)

  1. ramps are much safer
  2. The Jack stands should be able to hold it up, but when i work on my car I prefer to put it on a lift, I know not everyone has an access to one, No Ramps in the front IT could roll down, IF you really want to work on it yourself in the your backyard Put four jackstands and make sure its safely secured. I HOLD NO RESPOSIBILITY. Remember accidents do happen thats why they're called accidents. I dont think you need to lift all four though, only if you really have too. Just be careful and try and have someone there just in case. Make sure you dont stay underthere more then you need to if you dont feel comfortable. But me I really dont care I just hope my luck doesnt run out.
  3. The fact is there is always danger in getting under and lifted vehicle. Yes you would be safe enough going with the 2 ton stands and using those to keep it in the air. The thig to remember when putting it in the air is to put in on spots where the frame is nice and sturdy. They usually put cinderblocks under for extra height.
  4. Cinderblocks are suicide...if you really want to kill yourself, use cinderblocks---that'll do the job. Jackstands are fine but they have to be GOOD jackstands, not this KRAGEN crap with three tiny little legs welded onto pressed tin. for added insurance, you can use 4 x 4 blocks of wood...they won't crumble into dust like cinderblocks. Last of all, don't work alone. Make sure someone knows where you are and what you're doing.
