What should I put below my speaker stands?

I built two speaker stands. They are approx. 36 inches high and 7 inches wide. The speaker is small, probably 16 inches, and it sits on the top of stand. On the bottom part of these is empty space...aprox 20 inches. The stands are painted chocolate brown. We thought about a vase, or something like that...but it just does not look right. What could we put there that would work best for these things? Help!

1. I would use them to store books. The books are heavy enough to make good ballast for the stands, so they won't tip over easily.
