How do I make improvised stands for reflectors, halogen, and light bulbs?

It's a sort of an amateurish set of lighting tools, and I badly need stands for them but they may be expensive. So how do I make one? Hopefully one that's cheap and not so labor-intensive.. Thank you!!

  1. http://www.studiolighting.net/diy-c-stand-light-stand-from-steel-pipe/ That is a link to instructions for making pretty nice looking ones out of plumbing materials. It may be a little labor intensive though, but it seems to be mainly screwing parts together, drilling a couple holes in the pipes. They look sort of heavy, but maybe you could make them with plastic pipes? I'm not sure how amateur-looking you're willing to go, but you could also just stick some rods/broomsticks into coffee cans of cement and clip the lights on or rig some kind of screw tip to screw the lights into. Also, if you just need light weight stands they usually aren't all that expensive if you can find them used or on ebay.
  2. I wonder if it might be as cheap (and certainly faster) to go to Home Depot (or the equivalent where you live) and get some halogen work lamps, the kind on raised stands. They use 250W bulbs and they put out lots of light. (Lots of heat too.) Just a thought.
