What TV shows would you not allow your kids to watch?
Well, with all the shows that are on tv, I know some of them might be too brutal for our kids to watch. What shows wouldn't you allow your 5 yr old, 8 yr old, and 13 yr old to watch? Why or why not?

- Gee, anymore probably the majority of them, esp. if you have a dish! The one that popped into my head though was Family Guy. It has a lot of crude humor that I wouldn't want my kids to hear, whether they get it or not!
- Kid Nation. If you actually watch it, it sets a horrible example for kids!!!
- I would let them watch just about any one on regular TV, though I try to limit their TV viewing. I think it's better to watch it with them and teach them what is right and wrong on the show. In other words make it a learning experience. That is what my parents always did.
- Well, my 5 year old wouldn't be allowed to watch much, my 13 year old wouldn't be banned from watching much (obviously no porn or anything like that) HOWEVER I would require all questionable programming to have a discussion. For example, I allow my older children to watch certain shows that other parents may find to be age-inappropriate but I use them as a way to show my kids that yes some things you see on tv are stupid and unreal or display totally inappropriate behavior, etc. I ask them why they like the show or the characters and why they think they act/say things like that, how should they behave. Blah blah blah- they probably can't stand the way I make everything a lesson. Once they reach a certain age they can understand that and the difference between tv and reality. Younger kids however I dont think get this, the 8 year old would be somewhere in between but the five year old should still be having his/her "kid's cartoon monitored. There were some I hated and wouldn't have on in the house, power rangers, power puff girls, hey arnold, a bunch more but I can't remember them now...when my kids were younger they were low key/non-violent kid shows and nature/history/science programs, thats it, and you know what I'm always being told how intelligent and mannerly and well behaved my children are, and now they are 14, 11, 8, and 5 mo. and they will generally choose to watch educational programs over mindless media fodder ;)
- I wouldn't. Kids are going to want to watch cartoons anyways not something on comedy central or adult swim (like family guy or south park). If the 13 year old was mature and didn't repeat things at school or to his younger siblings I would allow him to watch anything on cable. I would however block HBO after like 9 o'clock, sometimes they have (pretty much) porn and they don't blur it.
- for 5 and 8 would be family guy, futureyama, and south park.... oh yea for a 13 yr old.......he or she can watch any thing but im to tired to type why..srry..
- I don't know about 13-year-olds since I don't have one yet. But rather than tell a 5- or 8-year-old what they couldn't watch, I would give them a small number of choices about what they could watch. In our house, that's a half hour of any kids' show on PBS (as long as it's at a time when they're not busy with other activities), and very occasionally a special event like some ice skating or baseball.
- South Park, The Simsons & MTV (and VH1) were all definitely banned. My daughter watched mostly videos and educational DVD's. Even before I would let her watch some of the cartoons on the Cartoon Network or Nickelodean, I needed to see them first. I found this out when she learned to say "Shut Up" from watching the PowerPuff Girls. In one episode, they told the "bad" guy to Shut up. I can't give you the whys and whynots for each show, you have to decide that for yourself depening on the maturity and more importantly, the grasp on reality each of your children possess.
- I am pretty laidback about television and my mom has always been that way too because we never imitated anything we saw. The only thing I wouldnt let my son watch is Boobah just because they scare the crap out of me ^_^ Other than that....I'm fyne.
