Help! Computer displays nothing but a line across the screen!?

Its like the the whole top and bottom of the screen have been chopped off, leaving just a line. The moniter won't display on my laptop or a regular pc (both fairly new) but it displays on my really old computer (really old) What could be wrong?

2. get an new monitor unless its under warranty and if it is get it from the company for free
3. I saw one game addict that had his monitor go down. He connected an old monitor to continue playing. The monitor survived, it blew his expensive video card. Do other monitors work on your computer now? It may be your video card.
