Speaker Stands Knowledge Base
What should I put below my speaker stands? I built two speaker stands. They are approx. 36 inches high and 7 inches wide. The speaker is small, probably 16 inches, and it sits on the top of stand. On the bottom part of these is empty space...aprox 20 inches. The stands are painted chocolate brown. We thought about a vase, or something like that...but it just does not look right. What could we put there that would work best for these things? Help!
Can I make speaker stands out of iron pipe? I am planning to make stands for my bookshelf speakers. I have some ms pipes of round 3" diameter. I plan to weld metal bases to these pipes (after filling them with sand of course) and screw wooden shelves to these bases.Would such a stand work or the magnetic material of the pipe interfere with the speaker magnet.(they are supposed to be magnetically shielded Wharfedale diamond 9.1)
Where to buy particular floor speaker stands? I'm looking for speaker stands that sit on the floor that face the speakers 30 degrees diagonally upwards (on the floor - not conventional stands that are 50cm high for example). I've seen them before but now can't find them anywhere. This is the closest thing I can find: http://www.fretmusic.co.uk/stagg-foldawa… Though this is too heavy duty. I need them for standard bookshelf size speakers. Anyone know anywhere? I will be eternally grateful, thank you.
what's the most best and most beneficial way to adjust speaker stands? i have 2 speaker stands, and i can adjust them to make the speaker tilt upwards or downwards. i.e. the more i twist anticlockwise the lower the speakers and stand gets and vice versa it is basically a tilt that can go up or down if i have the speakers tilting up will they sound better or worse? shall i just keep them dead stright? please help thanks
Where can I buy some cheap speaker stands? This is ridiculous. I looked around for some speaker stands and the prices are insane! They're just stands for goodness sake! I mean, do they amplify volume or something? I could just go get two wooden logs instead. lol. I know a lot of HD aficionados are going to flame me but I just don't see the point of buying expensive stands the size of branches.

Computer speaker stands? I am trying to find computer speaker stands for my rear speakers. what I am trying to find specifically is rear speaker stands about four feet tall so they will be right behind my chair. I have GREAT speakers I just want the stands. Any ideas where I can find this?
I think I might be too loud... Are speaker stands the answer? I love my music and films, however I live in a flat and I have neighbours directly below me. Although I haven't had any complaints yet, I'm conscious about annoying them with the *thump* *thump* *thump* of the bass coming from my Hi-Fi speakers, as they currently sit on the floor on either side of my television. I was thinking of getting some speaker stands to try to solve this potential problem. My reasoning for this would be that the stands would obviously move the speakers away from the floor and therefore reduce the bass that's heard by the neighbours. Another thought is that since the speakers would be a little more towards head level, I might not need to have them as loud as I usually would. Am I right in this assumption? If not, is there anything else that I can try, besides keeping the noise down? Note: I'm not allowed to fit wall mounts because the flat is rented. Plus I'm only concerned at how much noise I'm making because I barely hear a peep from anyone else in my block of flats. I can't be sure whether the flats are well insulated or everyone else is just quiet, but I don't want to take the chance. The speakers that I have aren't massive. They're speakers that came with my Sony CMT-CP500MD micro Hi-Fi. I don't know if this helps with your answers but thought I'd mention it.

What color should we paint our speakers stands and TV table? Our Couch is a rusty red color and our recliner is a greenish/celery color. We painted our coffee table a chocolate brown. What color should we paint the stands and TV table so that everything goes together? IT can be any color....we don't nesscesarily have to go with something that matches. We are open to any and all colors. Just something that works well.

Why are there calls for the Speaker (Michael Martin) to stand down? This has really confused me. Because of the recent MP expenses scandal, many politicians are saying that as part of the reform, the Speaker of the House of Commons (Michael Martin) should stand down. I don't really understand the connection. How will getting rid of the current speaker help?
How can I connect this stereo speaker to my tv? Ok this maybe be a silly question but I have two Emerson stand up speakers with red and black wires coming out of the back of each. They normally plug into a stereo but wanted to see if it could be used for my television as well. Any info helping to set it up or say it can't be done would be appreciated. Thanks
Movies having to do with what the US Constitution stands for? At work(a beauty college) we have to give a class educating our students on the US Constitution, what it stands for, and why it is important. In addition to having a speaker in class, we want to show them a movie, either a documentary or a Hollywood blockbuster, that might incorporate what the constitution stands for, that gets the point across. Does anyone have any ideas? I would greatly appreciate it.
Can a native spanish speaker please translate these two sentences for me? I will award 10 points ASAP to the speaker that can translate this without using a translator: Thank you in advance! "As can be seen, there are only two colours in this flag, blue and yellow. We notice that the blue is the dominating colour as it takes up the entire background of the flag. What stands out is the ring of twelve yellow stars in the centre."

Centre Channel Speaker Stand? Could anyone please point me to a site that sells an adjustable speaker stand for a centre channel. I have a 52" TV on a stand that is about 2 feet high so the stand has to adjust to a minimum of 5 feet. I'd like the speaker to extend over the top of the TV and protrude from the top slightly. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. First person with a decent link gets the points.
Is the female Speaker of the House giving women in America something to be proud of? White men dominate in business, politics, etc. Women and minorities all too often have equal or better qualities in performing such duties, but in your eyes is Nancy Pelosi doing a stand-up job as America's first Speaker of The House? Has she made a step forward for women or made people think this kind of job isn't for women? (Hopefully, in my opinion, it's just her that's terrible - not all other women.) What do you think?
What is the rule of thumb for surround sound speaker height? I just got surround sound for my tv, but i'm sure how high to mount the speakers, i heard ear height at the position you are sitting at, to no more than 3 feet above your head, is this true? right now i have them just sitting on a couple of stands at ear height and it sounds great but i'm not sure if i mount them higher if it will sound better or worse?
Is my room too small for floor standing speakers? My room is 10 feet x 10 feet, in the shape of a square. It has very high ceilings, probablly somewhere between 12 and 16 feet. Would floor standing speakers (towers) be wasted in a room this size? Am I better off spending the money on 'bookshelf' speakers and some nice stands instead?

How do I mount a PA speaker on a mic stand? I want to mount a standard pole-mount PA speaker (big hole in bottom) on to a standard mic stand. My PA speakers are Fender Passport 150s and hardly require a massive normal speaker stand being lugged around. Is there such thing as a adaptor or mount that screws onto a normal mic stand that converts it to a big fat speaker mount? Bear in mind that Fender Passport 150 speakers are not very. A boom with a big mic on it is probably just as heavy. Mounting them on a normal speaker tripod is like mounting a Sony palm camera on a Panavision dolly. The point is portability.
Does anyone know of a speaker repair company in the UK? The speakers function perfectly but i recently moved house and damaged the actual covers (a couple of dents and its a bit ripped) if it makes any difference they are acoustic solutions and stand about 4ft high. Thanks for your time any help will be greatly appreciated Ta!
Help with TV Stands? I have a 40" Sony XBR4, but for all my knowledge of home AV, I absolutely suck at selecting the furniture for it. I have a loft apartment that I am putting this in, and the TV cannot be mounted to the wall. But we do not want the look of a TV on a table, such as a normal stand or something. I once saw a stand that was basically a base with a pole on it, and then a bracket that the TV could be mounted to. No shelves or anything, and the wires ran inside the pole so that they were concealed. It looked a lot like a speaker stand, but with a VESA TV bracket on it instead. Anyone know what these stands are called, or where I can find them? Thanks.
Speaker and Projector set up? Hey guys. Need some help with the positioning of my home theatre. Here it goes, http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z22/akataylor/setup.jpg The carpet in the middle could hide some of the cabling, but don't know where to place speakers without the cables being seen too much. Projector ontop of my cabinet (which projects slightly too big, no zoom on my projector either). Where can I put my projector so that it fits the 100" screen properly (it's about 20 cms too big on each side, the projected image), and where can I place my speakers without cables being seen? I have 5.1 Htx250 Samsungs for the record. I've also got the swa3000 wireless part too to make the rear speakers wireless, but since the reciever is at the back, I need the FRONT speakers to be wireless, not the back. I'm thinking speaker stands for starters as well. Thankyou for you help! Note: the "floor to ceiling" on the side indicates a window, sorry about that.
Inexpensive way to mount center speaker above TV? I need to somehow mount my center speaker over my new TV...it's a flat panel so I can't just put it on top of it. Speaker stands are pretty expensive, and I don't have much room behind the TV on my stand to put a speaker stand anyway. Mounts look like a better option...but they are also a bit pricey for what they are - either one or two metal bars that drill into the wall. Any other ideas? Is there some kind of kit or something else I can buy at a hardware store, not specifically for speakers, that would do the job at a fraction of the price?
Mission 733 Speaker spares? I have a pair of Mission 733 floor standing speakers and the bass/mid-range driver cones have both been punctured beyond any hope of repair. Mission have confirmed that they are no longer able to supply spares, but has anyone replaced the driver units with a third party manufactured driver and if so to what level of success and can you recommend any particular make/model cone that would be suitable, taking into the consideration the age and value of the speakers.... Just seems a waste to chuck the cabinets. Thanks in advance.
Logitech X 540 Speaker Stands? Looking into getting the Logitech X 540's soon for my pc. I know that the stands on the speakers can be adjusted to mount on the wall, but with that feature are you still able to screw them into floor speaker stands like most speakers. These are the stands.... http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=5019646 ...Thanks!
POLK surround speaker? hey everyone, I have a little question to ask. I want to buy a surround speaker at home. but I only like Polk speaker. I preffer POLK but if youu have any suggestion ti is ok ? thank you
Why are Car and Home Audio Speakers so different? I have two infinity floor standing speakers, each has an 8" low range driver. Im curious why the sound, both spl and range, are much like that of my JL 12" w6v2 subwoofer in my car. Ok maybe not spl, ive never experienced my sub putting out more than 1/2 power. They are so different, the 12" being massive, both by competent companies. Why is it that from appearance they are so different, yet in sound they are so much the same?
floorstanding speaker question!!? I bought a pair of used SONY floor standing speakers a while ago, and now it seems the left column is failing to sound good. i can check it by just comparing while only playin one speaker at a time. i also tried disconecting the right one and plugging that into the left speaker and the sound quality is still horrible. I listen to a lot of electronica big beat stuff, and i was bumpin' em pretty loud today, but i dont think i blew the spaekers, it just sounds like only one out of the 3 on the column work. i unscrewed one speaker to peek inside and the wires go from the crossover to teh speaker fine. anyone had any ideas what could be wrong?
I am trying to find a home stereo system with a memory card slot preferably pro duo. Does anyone know of one? I have a Sony Ericsson w800i and want to be able to use my pro duo memory cards even when the phone becomes obsolete. I started thinking about finding a home stereo with the card reader and know at some point I saw one at Walmart with an SD slot. I was going to get a music stand for the w800i but if anything were to happen to my phone and the speaker stand was not compatible with the new phone or even the new phone didn't use the pro duo I'd be out of luck. If anyone knows of a home/shelf stereo that has a card reader on it please let me know. I have been to eBay and the web. Does anyone know if perhaps there is a card converter that converts pro duo to sd? I ahve found stereos that accept sd cards and card converters to turn sd to pro duo but not the other way around. Just thought if someone knew rather than having to search and search. That eBay response was lame. I mean duh?
Will the furnace harm my speaker? When I got home from work my fiance had the living room rearranged completely. The stereo speaker is now about 2 feet or less away from the furnace. It's a stand up furnace and its facing right at the speaker now and I think it would harm it. (The speaker is about 5 feet tall.) Do you think the heat will cause damage?
how to design around floor standing speakers? I have a set of B&W 9nt floor standing speakers and I was wondering how to design an entertaiment center around them. I have been to numerous places and nothing seems to look right. Answers with pics a plus or to a web page with pics. thanks Richard These are nice speakers so I dont think I would be interested in hiding them. People are really wow'd when they hear them. I am just looking for good look.
What are the major points i need for building a speaker box.? as of right now im thinking of jus a normal enclosure and i was wondering if there is any points i really need to know before i even think about starting(include obvious points my mind likes to skip over those). Are the speaker systems that come packaged w/ TVs at stores like Best Buy good? I'm going to buy a 42 inch flat panel from Best Buy and am thinking of getting a package deal where the TV comes with a full speaker system. These speaker systems are usually $500-$1,000 and look really cool with long big side speakers etc. displayed with the TV. They are usually also combined with DVD players (i.e. the receiver, if it can be called that, is the DVD player). But there are also separate speaker things in a separate department of Best Buy where you get a big receiver and then buy speakers and stands seprate and these usually don't have the long big side speakers that you see displayed with the TVs. These are my questions: 1) Are these systems that come bundled with TVs practical for plugging in multiple devices (e.g. my TV, PS3 and like another DVD player) with the ability to just switch between the devices with the press of a button? Or are these speaker systems limited to only having the built-in DVD player play through the speakers? 2) Is what I am looking

I have found some speakers for a reasonable price and am wantiog to know if they are good speakers, the brand is matirx, the modle number is 6160t. if not can anyone give me advice on what 7.1 speaker system to get, or 5.1 speaker system and add 2 maybe floor standing speakers to to get. i am looking to speend about 500. for some. thx-Mitch.

Will subwoofers magnet affect nearby PS3, DVR, speaker, or other electronics? I recently bought a JBL Sub-12 on impulse without thinking that I have no room for it. I managed to squeeze it in right next to my entertainment center but it's only about 2 inches to the right of my PS3 which is laying on it's side. I didn't see anything about these speakers being magnetically shielded and don't want to harm any of my electronics, it's also probably about 3-4 inches from my Motorola DVR, but that's the cable company's so who care, and my NewPoint surge protector/power conditioner. Also, will having the sub right next to my floor standing speakers (actually just the right channel) affect the sound quality out of them as well?
speaker problems? Theres something strange going on with my speakers...Some things stand out and some things fade, sometimes i have fuzz and sometimes its perfectly clear. Specifically, in a rap song when a rapper repeats a couple words to accentuate a lyric it plays that abnormally loud. Also sometimes the words are very muffled. My setup is 2 big bose 901 series speakers and 2 bose jewel speakers, the tiny square ones. Theyre all plugged into my Denon reciever. I hook it all up to my computer with a monster wire and play itunes strait to it. No wires are crossed, its all grounded and everything. Whats the deal???
Surround speakers for hi-fi home theatre? Audiophiles and speaker enthusiasts please.? I bought a set of hifi speakers with the centre speaker (B&W), main L&R speakers (JBL), rears (Kenwood diopole) and subw (B&W). I hadn't placed the Kenwood rears properly and rarely hear the sound effects. I am thinking of getting another set. I finally bought two stands to place the rear speakers but the ones I have are two heavy to be supported by the stands, the max is 2lbs. My Kenwoods are 2.3lbs and look too big to sit asthetically on the stands I purchased. Initially, I thought I could get any eg. Sony speakers but I found that today's market is all speakers one set with amplifier. The sydney hifi market is almost dead and all retailers are going for the all-in-one home theatre. I bought my set 3 years ago. Is it possible for me to buy a small mini compo and use those speakers as my back surrounds? I can check if they will accept 8 ohms with 89 db noise levels. Do you think this is better? I am only wanting to pay no more than A$200 for a pair. Will it work?
Microphone/speaker set ups only work with DC, right?cuz fluctuating AC current would induce b fields...? in the speaker coil creating unwanted noises, correct? Do you see what I'm saying? If the compressions and rarefactions of sound are represented and transmittted by current fluctuations that induce magnetic fields in the speaker coil, then wouldn't alternating current induce unwanted sounds as it switched directions? I am actually trying to understand telephone systems, but I think the question stands for any and all speaker/MIC system. I will give 5 stars to the man/woman who clears up my confusion. Thanks, all. Thank you to the answerer who said my reasoning was correct. And,by the way, I AM CORRECT!!!!!!!!!!! The second answerer who didn't seem to have given my question any thought whatsoever, you are WRONG!!!!! The phone line does operate on DC current. The only time an AC current is sent is when the phone company sends a ring signal. http://www.epanorama.net/circuits/teleinterface.html Thanks anyways also http://www.jkaudio.com/article_10.htm
How do you install speaker wire in the wall? I have my receiver against the front wall. The couch is against the back wall. I'm trying to mount the rear speakers behind the couch (probably on stands). The left and right walls only connect to the front wall, not the back wall (it's sort of like this room sits in the middle of a hallway). I need to install the wire into the front wall, run it through the ceiling, then down the back wall. There will be plates for the speaker wire connections installed in the walls. The problem is that I'm not sure how to feed the wire through the wall to the ceiling then back down the other wall. Are there any guides online that have a good tutorial on how to do this? Pictures would be helpful. I talked to some installers locally that said they would do the job for $400. I'm not prepared to pay that much money so if I can do it myself, I will.
Can a torn speaker be fixed? so the other night i was jamming out with my friends on my drumset and my cymbal stand fell over from (a combo) of hitting it too hard and being imbalanced. My 15" vintage speaker just happened to be in the way! So the bottom end of my cymbal stand struck the cone of the speaker so there is basically a 2"x1" hole in the middle part of the cone. (there isn't any rip right at the dust cap or the edge of the cone). So can this be repaired? duct tape or what not? Thanks!
Speakers Stand? Are the speakers supposed to be mounted on the platform of the stand? I don't want to drill holes on my speakers.
